V3 Exclusive Product Features

The sauna blanket was designed in part by Dr Raleigh Duncan, an expert in the field and founder of Clearlight Saunas. Compared to previous versions, the V3 has extra layers added to it that are made from amethyst, tourmaline and charcoal, as well as the addition of a medical-grade magnetic strip. The charcoal layer will help assist the process of detoxifying your body, with the tourmaline and the amethyst are both great in producing negative ions. All these additional features will increase your health and relaxation when lying inside the sauna blanket.

All the fabrics that are used in the blanket are both lightweight and non-toxic, meaning that they are safe to use and easy to transport. Many fans of the V3 have found that it is easy to fold and travel with, meaning that you can access its benefits anywhere. The blanket comes in two colour options – classic black and a vibrant purple.

Other improvements from the previous versions of this blanket from Higher Dose include the controller being easier to access and the Velcro straps used for fastening the strap being wider, allowing for a better and more comfortable experience for the user.

Like all of the Higher Dose Sauna blankets, the technology is developed so that it produces very low levels of EMF frequency – making it far better for the user’s health than other sauna blankets on the market – more on this later.

What To Expect When Using Your Infrared Sauna Blanket

When I first opened up the Infrared Sauna Blanket V3 from Higher Dose, it looked like a giant heat pad that I could wrap around my body. There are many ways that you can use this, whether you are sitting or lying down. For me, it worked best if I laid the sauna blanket on the ground, added a pillow to rest my head on and wrapped the blanket around me. The material is both comfortable and lightweight, while the instructions provided were easy to follow.

When it came to selecting my heat preference, I put the blanket on at level 5 – somewhere in the middle. This is because I am not used to the heat from a sauna, so didn’t want to turn it up to the highest heat level straight away. The controller is easy to use, so I could turn up the heat level once I was inside the blanket after I got used to the temperature.

From level 7 and above, I started to feel my heart rate increase and I began to sweat. The experience feels very relaxing and calming, and your body feels as if it is detoxing. At times, I felt like I was over heating, but the controller made it easy to turn the heat back down again. I always kept some water beside me when in the sauna blanket to ensure that I stayed hydrated, and this could also help cool me down if I was getting too hot. Safety is really important to me when using this sauna blanket, so I only use it for 45 minutes at a time, as recommended by Higher Dose.

In a traditional sauna, many people enter it only in swimwear or with no clothing on, however, you can use a sauna blanket with clothing. This has two main advantages – firstly, the clothing can help soak up a lot of your sweat, making the experience more comfortable as the sauna blanket doesn’t get too wet. Secondly, it is more comfortable having a layer of clothing when the sauna blanket that is against your skin heats up as it does get quite hot.

After using the blanket, it is very easy to clean – I managed to wipe it down with anti-bacterial wipes in a matter of minutes. After using the sauna blanket more often, I found that I felt calmer and fresher – I really would recommend this product to anyone!

Who is this product not right for?

As this product is completely different from a normal sauna with heated rocks and water which you can pour on to increase the temperature, it is not for everyone. Someone who is used to the normal sauna experience would likely find this at first frustrating. This is because it takes time for you to really feel that you are going to sweat and ride out that sensation. When we tested it whilst well-hydrated, we had varied results. My partner took 30 minutes to reach the point of noticeable sweating whilst at level 9 the entire time. After the 30 minute mark she did sweat for a further 15 minutes before getting out, but the level of sweating was not as she expected.

The key thing to remember is that it is a completely different experience to a traditional sauna and not to be rushed. If you are looking to turn it on and get a full sweat going within 10 minutes, as you may achieve in a normal sauna, then this is not for you. You also have to factor in that it takes around 10 minutes to get hot too.

You need to see it as a relaxing experience where you are not rushing and can listen to some music, meditate or watch a film.

As the product is quite large, it might be a shock to someone who imagined it to be like a heated blanket. It is much heavier than a heated blanket, though can still be carried relatively easily by one person.

The Benefits of Infrared Sauna Blankets

Infrared sauna blankets have a variety of health benefits – which are backed up with evidence from scientific surveys.

Detoxifying Properties

Usually, when we think of traditional saunas, we think of detox benefits due to increased sweat levels. However, some critics have argued with this, stating that the kidneys and the liver are designed to detox our bodies, and therefore saunas have no additional benefits, however, there is evidence to suggest that saunas do help detoxify the body.

Detoxifying Heavy Metals

A 2010 study found that many toxic heavy metals such as lead and cadmium excrete through sweat easier than they do through urine. This means that even though the kidneys and liver are designed to detoxify our bodies, sweat could still lead to more heavy metals exiting the body. The study also suggests that those that are exposed to toxic elements through their occupation can be advised to induce sweating – showing the benefits of this practice.

Detoxifying BPA (From Plastics)

Many plastics contain a component called Bisphenol A, or BPA. BPA can impact health in many ways. A study on the impact of this material found that it can impair neurons and HPG axis function, as well as negatively impacting fertility and reproduction. You may believe that you will not feel these negative effects if you spend your time using plastic that is labelled as ‘BPA-free’ however, to replace the BPA, most brands use compounds that are related to it. These compounds have still been found to still have negative impacts on the endocrine system, reproductive system and the brain. So how do sauna blankets help detoxify this? A 2012 study on BPA found that more BPA leaves the body through sweat, compared to urine.

Detoxifying Aluminium

One other compound that can leave the body through sweat is aluminium. Some studies have shown that those who are exposed to high levels of aluminium could be more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. We are exposed to aluminium through many everyday objects including foil and kitchenware. Not only has it been proven that aluminium leaves the body through sweat, but sauna use has also been found to reduce the risk of a person developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Other Health Benefits

As well as detoxifying benefits, sauna blankets have many other benefits that can significantly improve your health. When it comes to mental health, multiple studies have shown that the use of saunas can treat depression – both mild and more severe cases.

Physically, the sauna produces a similar effect on the body as exercise does, increasing the number of red blood cells and endurance. Also similar to exercise, saunas can help build muscle. Using saunas frequently can increase the levels of growth hormone in the body. The same growth hormone that leads the body to synthesise protein and help build muscle

Saunas can also aid brain development by raising the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which also lowers inflammation and blood pressure. Finally, one study has shown that regular sauna use reduces the likelihood of death from all causes
